  • Dog poo wormery??

Hi. I found an advert online recently for someone selling what looked like wheelie bins and worms for composting dog poo... has anyone tried them? I thought you weren't meant to compost dog poo? And if it's OK to do so, isn't there a cheaper way...? The bin things are hugely expensive.

Thx for the link rustylady, interesting reading . The wormery I read about sounds a bit different though - only for poo, and uses worms rather than heat. But if it's no good for veg, I'm not interested at this stage - no flowerbeds yet!

I bought a wormery for dog poo once. After reading all the instuctions I decided it wasn't worth it. No you still can't use it on anything grown to eat.
Plus it then goes on to say that you should be using less poo and more kitchen scraps, and that the kitchen scraps should be chopped up to small pieces to make it easier for the worms.......no mention of chopping up ahem.
So I decided I'd just step over the dog poo, and compost normally where you don't have to spend hours preparing the food for the composter!

Slugs seem to like eating dog poo and I have wondered about combining the two in one big bin. I'm a bit worried about breeding superslugs though.............

Just imagine demonstrating that on Dragon's Den!
I do find that dog poo, left overnight, will be slimed over by morning and sometimes, there are sated slugs asleep alongside
