Looks a simple method if it works/germinate. I like the spaced out idea on the paper towel. I usually rinse mine a few times in fresh water. I am trying some of the Aldi mini plum toms as they have a good flavour.BumbleB

I haven't watched as that's a good ten minutes I won't get back again. But from what was said by Bumble, I do it the same way, seeds straight out of tomato, onto kitchen paper.
When I sow them, rip up kitchen paper, chuck in compost, done.

I spread mine out on kitchen paper, and with the tip of my finger nail gently pull all the mushy coating off. Leave em for a little while to dry off a bit, then put them in a paper envelope. They've germinated and grown fine from this method. I've never fermented them, it looked very messy and smelly!Comment

There are three main ways: Ferment; wash with TSP or any of the 'OXY' types; whack them on a tissue.
Take your choice? The second is said to be best in that it removes 'pathogens'.
For us ordinary people who are just taking seed from a nice tommie, tissue is usually available but mark it with the description or name.

Last year I washed tomato seeds in a sieve and dried them on kitchen towel, kept moving them so they didn't stick - I have a couple of tiny tomato plants from them, hoping for the best.Last edited by maytreefrannie; 11-05-2009, 08:57 AM.My hopes are not always realized but I always hope (Ovid)

I always used the paper towel method - until I started seed swapping. Then I decided to do the fermentation thing - I think the separate seeds look nice in a little packet. Just me being posh though. They germinate just as well from paper.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I do the kitchen paper thing as well.. let them dry for a couple of days, put them away.. then just peel them off the towel as I need them.Comment

I didn't use my nail as such, just dragged the seed along the kitchen roll with the tip of my finger and the jelly stuff came clean off straight away.
We have an older style central heating boiler on the kitchen wall so I put the paper on the ledge inside that, they are totally dry now.
