  • Does anyone know what this is?

Think I've had a rogue seed appear in my tomato seeds as this beast has appeared!

I'm not sure if it might be a brassica as there's something that looks like a little floret starting to appear in the centre (not sure if you can make it out in the pic though?)

Can anyone give me any hints as to what it might be?

    Thanks a lot!

Are the leaves of that toughis when on the plant? As these feel similar to cabbage leaves? It's probably been growing for maybe 6 weeks?

The leaves are quite tender, I'm gonna pick and eat some later so I'll pop a note/pic on for you to have a look

The purple one is really pretty. Might give that kind a go!

Thanks for all your help. How big should it grow? Should I move it into a bigger pot? Or are the leaves ready for picking? There's still a little floret forming in the centre.?

If it's forming a floret - get it eaten! It means it is going to 'bolt' as we say. It will flower and set seed and is better eaten in its prime.

Ok thanks Flummery! I take it from that that these type of plants don't take long to bolt? If I pick the leaves do they grow back for a second crop?

                          Hi Glaw5,

I don't believe so, I yanked another couple of plants out last night, chopped the bottom bit off and threw in a stir fry, lovely jubbly
                          Cheers

Not once they shoot flower buds.

The loud wind never reached the ship,
Yet now the ship moved on !

The dead men gave a groan.

They groaned, they stirred, they all uprose,
                              Nor spake, nor moved their eyes ;
It had been strange, even in a dream,
To have seen those dead men rise.
