I wonder how many people use collars for their brassicas and if they are bought or home made? I did look at buying some felt squares, but it doesn't work out any cheaper.

I never use them on the over winter vegetables, but for the ones growing outside now, yes.Comment

Not using them for brassicas but having found some in the shed, they are placed around the melon and cucumber plants in the greenhouse. The theory being that they might help to hold the moisture in? Hope so any way. Apart from the practical side, they look neat and they are porous so the water goes straight through into the bucket.Comment

After a bad attack of root fly a few years ago I have used them ever since. So far I have not had a repeat attack. I use bought ones simply because they are compostable when after a few seasons use they split.

I've also just found a roll of black weed suppressant material in the shed (I'm supposed to be changing the bed linen, so don't tell anyone). I suppose I could cut some of that up.Granny on the Game in SheffieldComment

Flo I used weed fabric last year and you have to weigh it down with stones or it blows away but apart from that it worked fine.Location....East Midlands.Comment
