Do peas crop more than once?

    Do peas crop more than once?

    Our peas and sugar snaps are about ready to harvest. I've never grown them before and wondered if they will flower again, or should be dug up to make space for something else (it's only a tiny garden so I want to maximise efficiency)?

    If the latter, is it too late to grow more of the same?

      Any recommendations? Quite sunny and sheltered, but it's a narrowish bed.

        Doohg for next year if you want peas to keep on cropping grow something like telephone peas, they grow 6ft tall and keep on producing until the frosts.

          Not too late for french beans, short rooted carrots, lettuce, oriental greens, mooli etc. Depends what you like to eat

            6ft is a bit high for my fence, as I discovered with sweet peas last year. Are there any other kinds of multi-crop peas (or pea variants like sugarsnap/mangetout) which don't go quite so giant?

            Thanks. It's up against a fence so something grows up would be best. Maybe beans.

              I only really like mange tout and i wondered if peas can be picked when they are still flattish to eat whole like mange tout? Or would they be too small to be worth it? It's just given these climb vertically they could be a good addition to my garden.

                The mangetout varieties are specially bred to have edible pods, a bit like stringless beans. If you try to eat the ordinary pea pods you will probably find them tough and stringy.

                  I accidentally ate a young pea-pod - I am growing sugar-snaps next to regular peas and got mixed up - and it was very nice. But I think it might depend on the variety and how early you get them.
