    disappointing swifts

    I planted some swifts, Maris Peers and Charlottes on the 14th March. excited by tales of folk enjoying their earlies I dug up two of the swifts at the weekend and got a very meagre 200g of potatoes. Did I just dig up too soon? and if I did, how long should I wait to dig the rest up??
    None of the plants have flowered and none are more than a foot high after earthing up...

    I think you dug them up too soon Glut. How long they take to be ready has many variables - weather etc. I leave my potatoes until I see the top growth starting to die down then I know they're ready.

        The green on swifts is quite short and the flowers are tiny. How big were the spuds??

          very mixed...biggest about 8cm smallest about 2cm.

            I was also disappointed with my swift - the plants had started to die off so couldn't leave them any longer.
