  • Dastardly Rain.

I have a small, potager section just outside my back door, which was starting to come lovely. All my little gem lettuces had about 6 leaves on them and looking great. Then yesterday we had such torrential rain that the guttering on the roof couldn't cope and the area was deluged by water. Now all my lettuce look drowned and flat on the floor, I do so hope they recover.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Oh no Mikey If the sun comes out, they might just pick themselves up? I'll cross my fingers for you.

All fingers crossed hoping when I get home later, they are all stood to attention, with bright smiles on their faces.

Fingers crossed for your lettuce. I'm personally loving the rain because I seeded some bare patches and fed my grass at the weekend and its filling out nicely.

We had another five minute shower today ~ didn't do any more than dampen down the dust.
We've not had proper rain for how long? The ground is like concrete. My plants aren't suffering though ... the potato foliage was a bit wilty so I watered their roots (I've sunk upturned milk bottles in my veg plot so I water the roots not the soil).

The newly transplanted kale and squash had a drink too, but I don't water my onions or flowers at all.

Lettuces have perked up no end, I've lost a few which were broken, but the majority lifted their battered heads of the ground in yesterdays sunshine. Yay, we've had a lot of rain over the last three days, so there has been no need at all to water. With every silver lining comes a black cloud, slug and weed duties have increased 10 fold.
