  • Cucumbers

    Hi all,

Aware these probably need potting up now, but can anyone tell me what the white spots on my cucumbers are (pic attached)?

    Thanks

The white spots on the seed leaves are nothing to worry about. They are starting to die off - JUST AS THEY SHOULD!!! The seed leaves are like the turbo boosters on a rocket. Once they have got the plant out of the ground, their job is done.
The "true leaves" of your cukes do look as if they may be starting to suffer from a lack of nutrients, so pot them on and perhaps give them a does of Epsom Salts. It's a classic source of....magnesium....I think... But they could do with a little boost! Otherwise, lookin' goooood!

Nip the seed leaves off, up one pot size, with a thin layer of fresh compost in the bottom and all round. Water sparingly and always from the bottom. This will give them the boost they need otherwise good looking plants.

Cucs are prone to powdery mildew as they mature, they say a spray with diluted milk is supposed to help, how? I have no idea.

Orly? 'Cos my melons, peas, cucumbers, grapes etc all got the same thing last year (and basically killed them)... Interested if anyone knows if this works or not...

Thanks Bigmallly, will have to bear this in mind for when the dreaded fungus shows.

Question now is; full fat, semi-skimmed, skimmed, bovine or goat?????

                      I believe skimmed is recommended.
