  • Cucumbers not doing well!

First time I've grown cucumbers but having problems...
I raised them in a heated propagator, and gradually moved them into a greenhouse which doesn't go below 8 deg C at night (fan heater).
One of them has just collapsed and died, and the other seems to be growing really slowly.
It has only one true leaf, and has been like that for the past 2 - 3 weeks, and it's leaf is pale in colour.
I don't think that it's damping off, but is anyone else having similar problems?

My tommies meanwhile are romping away!

I think cucumbers would really prefer it a couple of degrees warmer than that - about 10c minimum. Also when are you watering them? I find mine respond best to being watered in the morning and using the water up over the day, rather than sitting in cold, wet compost overnight.
Other than that, I'm not sure...?! Still, it might be worth sowing a couple more seeds, just in case?

With cucumbers you should aim for a night temp of around 15C - don't let temps fall below 12C or you may get chilling injury...!

Welcome to the Vine Pauldreed. I think your cucumbers have been too cold. You've plenty of time to re-sow and that's what I would do. And I would keep them indoors at night until things warm up a bit.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

            Thanks for the advice.
I planted my cucumbers the same same time as my toms, chilis and peppers, but I'll learn from it and hopefully have more luck next year!
I've got through a full packet (5 seeds), so I'll have to buy some more and start over next week.

Your one survivor might do ok if you warm things up a bit for it

Unless they were some kind of F1 specials I'd expect a lot more than 5 seeds in a packet - try another brand......
