Hello, my cucumber growing horizontal had a few small cucumbers on it and about 5' long. Thought i would pinch the end off to make it send laterals out and it completely stopped it growing, apart from the cucumbers that were already there, they matured ok but nothing more. Normal?

Wonder if its anything to do with variety? I'm growing Marketmore and that has lots of laterals but the Tasty Green Burpless I'm also growing doesn't have any.Location....East Midlands. -
I believe some cucumbers are bush types and some are cordon types, a bit like tomatoes - I think (but I am not sure) that the outdoor ridge types are bush ones and the all female indoor ones are cordons, but I can't remember where I saw the info. Certainly when I grew Vega there were lateral shoots everywhere, whereas Cucino is much more inclined to have just the main shoot. However, in my friend's greenhouse this year one of the 2 Cucino plants seems to have got damaged at the tip (probably by a snail), and it is producing some lateral shoots.
Are there any buds visible in the leaf joints? I grow my Cuc's vertically on a support of copper meshing, now I know you are supposed to take out the laterals, but I never do, just tie em back to the frame where you have space, makes for a "Messy plant" which does my head in, but produces an abundance of crops as long as you keep em well fed n watered!

So do the laterals produce as much as the main stem? Mine are miniF1 and now have no cucumbers, picked last one today, plant still green but no new growth,been like this for 3 weeks or more, guess it's Given up, September round the cornerOriginally posted by Deano's "Diggin It" View PostComment
