  • Cucumber plants suffering?

    Hi,

A couple of my cucumber plants don't look too good, the leaves have lost
their texture and gone smooth and have pale patches.

Anyone know what's up with 'em and what action I should take?

    Cheers,
    Rick

Mine too! I have lost every cucumber plant I have grown this year. They get as far as the first 1 or 2 true leaves which develop pale patches, growth slows/stops, and hey, that's another one on the compost heap.

I've a sick looking mini cuke plant with similar myself. hasnt grown since being planted in the bed, whereas the others have rocketed.

I'll offer up a pic of mine too.

Some suggest that cukes are just waiting for an excuse to give up.
Probably best just to turf them in the composter.

                Just a thought

                Hi folks

My first look at the veg forum - I also have a cucumber plant which one leaf a bit like this one. Could it be sun scorch??? water droplets on leaf - sun rays magnified through rain droplets?? Only a thought

Haven't grown cucumbers before now though!!!! Was looking for advice on how to grow them when I saw your pic.

I think it's water splash too Gorsty. The droplets act as a lens and the leaf is simply burnt. Watering from the bottom if in a pot, or very carefully at soil level helps no end. Scattering water from a height does the damage.

Yeah, I agree, that looks ike scorch to me. If not from water splash then maybe they've not been properly hardened off? In that case the sun and the wind would do some damage... No need to compost them though - the new growth should be ok.

Oooh, now then, must go and do some more reading, they have not been hardened off at all, is it too late?
