  • cucumber leaves yellowing

    Hi
I planted cucumber seeds about 6 weeks ago in the greenhouse and 6 germinated. sorry i can't remember the variety. I transplanted into individual pots and some have favoured better than others. They all grew fine to 6 leaves when i pjnched out th etips as advised in a book to encourage side shoots. 1 plant is great...lots of female flowers. The others sstarted to yellow. I transplanted 2 outside into the ground which had already got some female flowers but have now stopped growing altogether. The other 2 are still in the greenhouse and aren't much better with no fruit at all. I can't understand why one is ok and the others have yelowed when they were all in the same soils and conditions etc. Also does anyone know what the problem is?

    Many thanks in advance

It is annoying when that happens - everything gets the same treatment, but some just do better than others! I would suspect possible drainage/over-watering for the ones in the green house - or possibly getting too hot (check ventilation) and unless they are specifically bred for "Outdoors", cucumbers (in my experience) don't do terribly well. I had some "Outdoor" variety ones from the garden centre a couple of years ago which I planted in a large pot against the outside of the green house. They sulked in a VERY yellow fashion while the ones I'd planted INSIDE romped away. When I moved the pot into the greenhouse, they quickly perked up. I'd give them all a good dose of tomato plant food and keep my fingers crossed!

hi creemteez. Thanks for the reply ...and the sympathy. I realised that I needed some!!! Will give them a feed and hope for the best. I am so annoyed with myself that I threw away the seed packet with tbe variety on it. Page 1 error but I have found that gardening is one lesson after another learned the hard way.
Thanks also Bren... I had seen the thread but as my plants were much younger I wondered whether there might be another cause or different advice.

Don't stress too much about it....Gardening certainly can be called "one lesson after another", but they are never quite the same.... You will learn lots along the way and will make mistakes, but smile and move on...You're not the first to throw away seed packets without labelling....Wait til you start mixing up plants labels and have to play the "plant lottery" game
