  • Cucumber Leaves going yellow

    Hi

i am new to this, both growing my own and this forum.

I am growing cucumbers in my greenhouse, but the leaves have started to go yellow.
I feed them every 7 days with tomato food.

am i doing the right thing?

    Thanks

Whereabouts are you in the country Peppertom? It makes a difference to the advice sometimes Is your greenhouse heated? If not, then it's probably too soon to have the cucs outdoors overnight - they like to be kept at a minimum of about 10c.
Also, unless the cucs are producing fruit, they shouldn't need feeding yet. Check that you aren't over-watering them too, as that can cause stem or root rot in cucumbers - the soil should be damp, but not soaking all the time.
    Hope that helps.

PS It's not too late to sow some more if you lose these ones.

      i am in east anglia.

no my greenhouse is not heated but we are not having cold nights now.

i have some cucumbers still in pots in the greenhouse and their leaves are not turning yellow it is just the ones that i have in the growbags.

Hmmmm, maybe they weren't quite big enough to go in the grow bags yet? I lost a couple of cucumber plants last year because I put them from small pots straight into big flower buckets. The ones I put into medium pots first did really well. They don't like being surrounded by too much cold wet compost, can cause root or stem rots to set in.

Also, are the ones in pots up on staging? Or down on the floor? It is colder on the floor than up on the staging so that may be a factor.

I had a simular thing happen to my cucumber plant I was told it could be mosaic virus or lack of magnesium. I cut the leaf of and took it to a local garden centre who told me it was caused by sun scald. Some how I must have splashed the leaf with water. I cut the other effected leaves off and the plant seems to be doing ok now
