  • cucumber and gherkin space

I have a four shelf plastic greenhouse and was thinking of trying to grow cucumber (marketmore) and Gherkin (bimbostar) in it. This might be a strange question, but would it be better to grow both from the bottom (in a trug or growbag each) and give them both the full height of the greenhouse or give them both the equivelant of 2 shelves each? is there not enough space for both? Or, does it not make the slightest difference ?

I grew Marketmore outside last year and it did really well. If you really want to grow it in your mini g/house I think just one plant would probably fill it on its own. New to growing Gherkins myself so can't comment on their size

I don't know either of these varieties but I grew mine in pots outside on my patio. As Sallym has said I would only grow one in there and then give it the whole height of the greenhouse. I think most cucumbers are climbers so they would probably need the height.

You may have difficulty in growing a cucumber in your mini greenhouse due to lack of height. I grow mine in the greenhouse and its usually six foot up the pole and up to five foot along the roof

hmmm, I might have to re-think. I hadn't thought I could grow cucumber entirely outside, So I guess that is good news. Perhaps I will grow it up the shed and give the mini greenhouse to the gherkin. Thanks.

The other problem you would have with splitting the grow house in two horizontally would be that the bottom one would be in the dark when the top one got going.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
