  • Which Crisp lettuce?

I'm a bit fed up with floppy lettuce leaves - need something with a bit of attitude Which crispy, crunchy lettuces would you recommend?
I have a selection of so-called "crisp" lettuce seeds that I'm going to try - a few seeds of each started in modules to be planted out in the same bed for comparison.
If you can recommend something special I'll try to include it.
    Ta muchly

Despite many people not liking them I don't think you can beat iceberg for crunchiness.

I love "Great Lakes" it's an iceberg type but I just pick the leaves. It's on my grow every year list.

I should have asked for ones that are easy to grow too

Last year my iceberg did brilliantly, they say they don't like full sun and my patch is quite shaded so maybe that's why, not a one went to seed either, Heads like footballs if I left em long enough. I also left 4 in the GH and they went right through winter. Very easy to grow.

I've planted a 'cut and come again' ... looks like romaine lettuce with huge crunchy leaves .... 2 leaves and you have enough lettuce for 3 people in a salad .... grows fast and you eat early instead of waiting for a head to form

Romaine is the one I would recommend. Easy to grow, reliable, a very good cropper with an excellent flavour.

I like the sound of those mini icebergs. My space is small, and icebergs get big and take ages. I grow Little gems in summer and winter density in autumn.

Last year I had good results from Winter Density planted in August. I got salad well into winter, It seems quite hardy although last winter wasn't very cold.
