My courgettes are growing well. I have grown six in total (first time so did not know how manny would take!). How many can I put in one pot?

All my veg is being grown in containers.

Pots wise - I have purchased:

    2 x Stewarts 50cm Patio Tub and 2 x Stewarts 35cm Patio Tubs
(Stewarts Smithy Patio Tub Gunmetal 50cm - Plastic Planters - Dobbies.com)

I also got some of Haxnicks Carrot Planters (Carrot Patio Planters) At Malvern Show last week (They were £10 a pack and then as we were there on the last day they were buy 2 get 1 free). They are Width: 1' 6" (45cm), Depth: 11" (30cm) and Height: 11" (30cm).

Which planter would be best for a courgette plant and how many should I plant in the pot?

Thanks for all your help :-)

Six !.....I hope you all like courgettes

They do require a lot of room ...I'd probably go for one in each tub. I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong .

One courgette plant per tub. Or possibly two in a growbag - that's pushing it though. They turn into quite large plants.

How large are we talking -- I have but mine in Morrisons flower Buckets -- 1 per bucket
        Will that be ok.
Do they grow Up or Spread out over the ground?

You'd need to stack growbags wouldn't you? My understanding is that courgettes like deep roots.
Maybe you could stand a bag on its end and plant in the top

The 50cm planter's look great, there nice and deep I'd only put 1 plant in each pot it's already been said they like to put there root's nice and deep, plus they don't really like to share there room.

I find my courgettes are quite prolific but eventually burn out.
I try and sow a few early, some a few weeks later , and some later still.
Seems to work for me !

I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.

Would a Morrisons bucket be big enough, and if so, to they just "sprawl" over the sides?

Thank you very much for all your replies - very much appreciated. I will plant one per pot. I will do two - one in a large tub and then one in a small. Which compost should I use and also how deep should I bury the courgette plant?

Thanks again - this forum is fab!

I think a flower bucket is maybe a bit too small. They'll grow to 1sqm, and will need to be fed and watered regularly in containers.
You could do as Jimmy does and successional sow them over a few weeks. You'll need more containers then though....

just saw the post above, hows that for confusing!!! one says yes, one says no
