Default courgettes becoming marrows

I was away for a week and came back to a massive marrow on each of my courgett plants! Does this mean that I prob won't get any more courgettes from them? I've taken them off and am thinking of ways to eat them up (there are only 2 of us)

Do you mean they were massive marrow (tough for cutting through) or small marrow? I had a small marrow since it was too fat to be a courgette.

If they're no longer courgette, they're good smothered in white sauce or alternatively, stuffed with savoury beef mince with melted cheese (something like that recipe) which is a meal in itself. Once I had a cake made with grated marrow by a neighbour with overstock of marrow. I didn't fancy it that much though.

ohhhh it was definately too fat to be simply a big courgette! I've managed to give a few away at work, but will try your white sauce suggestion.

This was originally posted by 'Slug' last year, 'Chocolate Courgette cake'
Look in 'Season To Taste' & put courgette recipes in to search for more.

Have a look in the kitchen section, there are quite a few lovely courgette recipes. Bernie PS Find Wellies courgette and potato soup - absolutely delish!

Hi Queen
Use it in any recipe that calls for grated courgette, or freeze grated courgette/marrow if you can't use it all up at once.
best wishes
Sue

Yes QoC, if you turn your back on them for a few days they do turn into marrows. I cut my courgettes regularly. I don't know how I missed this one.

I love marrow seeded and sliced and gently steamed for a few minutes. Then I layer it up in a dish with grated cheese (a bit of sage doesn't hurt either) and topped with cheese and breadcrumbs and a dot or two of butter. finish in the oven for about 10 mins. Really nice - I think it would convert a marrow hater. It did, in fact, because I didn't tell him what it was!

Yes, Farmer Gyles, marrows are really oversized courgettes. However, certain strains have been bred to produce better tasting, more prolific courgettes. I am feeling really jealous, though, cos I've only had one and a half courgettes so far this year - the weather and the slugs have been against me. I'm hoping for an improvement.

Our courgette plants are only just really kicking into production now and we haven't yet had anything like the glut we expected (or hoped for - we like courgettes). I bought What Will I do With All Those Courgettes by Elaine Borish and haven't used any of the recipes so far, though they look pretty good, if a bit unusual in some cases!

after my initial rush, my plants seem to be slowing down a bit now. Hopefully when I get up to the lottie today, I'll find a few more waiting for me. Courgettes or marrows - either I don't mind.

I got the 5 squillion things to do with a courgette book too hvrlon and there's certainly enough in there to keep us going.
