Is this a Courgette??

    Is this a Courgette??

    Hi,

    I hope someone can help, one of my veg plots is being taken over by what I think is a self sown courgette. The leaves look right to me and the stem looks like my plants last year did after i'd had a lot of courgettes but so far nothing but small purple flowers seem to be growing.

    Is this definitely a courgette or something I need to dig up? Hopefully the photos will help.

      I would agree. Courgettes are very tender in the UK (don't know where you are) and therefore unlikely to survive the cold. Courgette flowers are yellow too.

        Thanks, that is a shame I'll have to dig it up. ON the plus side my strawberries will be glad to regain some sunlight.

          Hello Wiltsgal and welcome.
          I agree with Nicos and Wendy - its Common Mallow (Malva Sylvestris).
          Its very pretty and some parts of it are edible - but not as good as courgettes Seasonal Wild Flowers - Common Mallow

            it's not warm enough for courgettes to be growing wild, and they don't have purple flowers.

              Would agree with the statements above about it being mallow however I was surprised to discover a load of self sown (probably from the compost mulch I added although the bed in question did have a squash scrambling around it last year) squash plants in a bed I cleared yesterday for the first time this year. I just pulled them up though as they could be anything as squashes are so promiscuous.

              Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

              Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
