  • Courgette question

Is it too late to direct sow courgettes now. Only just got bed ready and ones I planted earlier have just keeled over and died. Thanks

According to RHS they can be sown Apr May June but may speed things up if sown in a heated prop.

OH sowed ours last Friday . They are just starting to germinate in the blowaway.
We never start them off too early as we can't easily keep them frost free.

I haven't had much movement from the ones I sowed two or three weeks ago. Then yesterday I left a packet of courgette seeds out on the potting table that's outside the greenhouse, so they got completely soaked and slugs had clearly munched the packaging. I figured I might as well sow them, as they got wet. If they all come up, I have 13 plants in addition to my previous ones! LOL My neighbours will hate me throwing courgettes at them lol

the ones I germinated two weeks ago have barely grown at all.
I thought, with the hot weather we've had and all, that they'd romp away but everything seems so slow this year apart from berries, tree fruit and spuds.

So I'm hoping its not too late to sow because yours will catch mine up in no time!

^^^^^ and lots of pee til they start setting fruit. Consider pinching out the top or removing some fruit so the ones you get are a decent size. Maybe grow more plants and expect less from each one.

Mine only have 2 true leaves and are still on the bedroom window sill so if you sow your seeds today you'll not be far behind.

My courgettes are in various stages of chitting in damp kitchen towel. 2 of them have gone out in the past couple of days since they've sprouted.
