  • Courgette plant with yellow leaves...

    Hi all,

My courgette plant has grown like a triffid over the last 3 weeks, it's got lots of flowers on it but over the last week some of the leaves have turned yellow.

I started to feed it around 10 days ago when I noticed the flowers forming. The feed has a decent nitrogen content so I don't think it's a deficiency... The plant still seems to be growing alright, just the leaves are looking rather strange. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

That pale leaf doesn't look too hot, but it is one of the first. Out of interest, what kind of courgette plant is it? Plants that produce yellow courgettes often have yellow splotches on their leaves.

Are you keeping it outside in a blow away? It may be getting too cold?

It's a Midnight. I was wondering if that big leaf looked particularly bad because it was one of the first ones too.

Yeah it's outside in the blowaway. It gets full sun all day (temp is 18C in there right now) and I did fleece it during the cold spell last week... It could well be cold damage though, do you think it'll be okay if it is that?

Well the daytime the temps are fine but at night it's very different story. Courgettes, squashes, tomatoes etc are fine in a blowaway or greenhouses during the day when the sun is out but at night we have been having frosts and very low temps. I had a light frost this morning. I bring my tomatoes in every evening. Anything below 10 is too cold.
I haven't sown any courgettes as the temperatures aren't quite warm enough yet.
It's warming up here this evening but ideally you need to keep an eye on the weather and bring it indoors if it's forecast cold. Wrap up with fleece if you can't bring it indoors.

Well, I wouldn't give up on it, that's for sure. Other than that one leaf, it looks like it's doing quite well despite the cold.

Keep spoiling it with fleece at night and bring it indoors if you can on really cold nights. Looks to me like it's very grateful for the treatment received so far.

If it yellows further, it could be a magnesium deficiency, which you can remedy with epsom salts; but it probably is just a bit cold.

Just a little update... I think it's okay. This beaut started to open today! Fingers crossed this warm spell sticks around.
