    Cornish Crystal spuds

    Whilst we wait for the first of our potatoes we grabbed a couple of bags of the above. The taste is buttery gorgeousness in a spud. I have trawled about on the 'tinternet' for a while but have been unable to turn up any seed potato as I fancied some for next year.

    Has anybody come across them or are they really 'exclusive to......(Asda)'

        I'd have a go at chitting the ones you've bought. Grow them in a pot if you can, and then use the crop for next year's seed.

        It might be that they're actually a known variety, but grown in a certain place/under certain conditions - as 'Jersey Royals', which are International Kidney if grown anywhere else. Tattieman might know, if he spots this thread

          I thought by law you were meant to name the variety that was being sold in the shop?

          Anyway I would suspect that they are Lady Christl. The thing is with these regional named varieties almost any variety can be used and then called a different name.

          You really can't beat the taste of an early spud though.

            How are the farmers able to get spuds from the British mainland so early? They must have to fleece or something against the frost.

              Probably tunnel grown. It's warmer in Cornwall too!
