quick question nicos? does the fruit of veg have to be as it was picked or could we have "crafted" it a bit ourselves?

I've had couple like this,on full size cobs, you don't see it until you take the leaves off to cook, I have a couple of photos, that I've tried unsuccessfully to upload, was going to ask if anyone could tell me why it has happened?

It's like some of the kernels just didn't grow, the rest of them are ok to eat just look a bit sparse
