  • Congrats to Dan the Veg man

Well done to Dan who managed to come superb 2nd in the 1.5kg onion class at the Harrogate Show. I'm sure pictures will soon follow but I have been keeping up with the additional 'side competition' most of the year (and the banter).

    Well done fella.

Allotment Vegetable Growing Blog Diary Veg : Giant Exhibition Onion Attempt Blog check out the carrots!

Incidentally at the same show ..... in a historic moment Peter Glazebrook smashed the World Onion Record with a 17lb 6oz monster!

Amazing. I got lost in that site for a good while too. The carrots are spectacular.

I am still at the 'getting stuff to grow to eat' stage, but I'd like to have a go at those carrots.

I know what you mean. I'm trying to pick up tips in order to improve the size of my veg. Time will tell with the leeks as I can't get into the whole heating and lighting of greenhouses in January, however it does seem to be working with the carrots and parsnips.

I've borrowed this pic from the Smithy Veg blog but I'm sure he wont mind as he has felt Dans onions were good enough to compete at this level for a while (or so he says!)
