  • Confused about Borecole!

Its confession time - I've only just realised that Borecole is Kale, not Broccoli
In trying to understand what is meant by "Broccoli" :-
Calabrese is Italian Sprouting Broccoli and sold in supermarkets as Broccoli
Sprouting Broccoli (white or purple) is the overwintered broccoli and resembles small cauliflowers.
Brocoletto is Raab Cima di Rapa (or mini broccoli) and related to the turnip
Wok-broc is a hybrid of Chinese broccoli and purple sprouting.
Tenderstem is a hybrid of Chinese broccoli and Calabrese.
Am I the only one who has trouble with broccoli?

I always remember it that Calabrese is NOT suposedly frost hardy and usually crops up until autumn, or the first frosts.
All others, ie broccoli's and kales etc ARE frost hardy and usually crop through autumn/spring/early summer.

(Must admit, I'v e never even heard of some on your list though VC)

That's how my problem started, Snadge! Trying to organise my seeds and realising that I have all of the above - even Tenderstem - which is also called Kai-lan. Aargh!!!!!!!!!!!

You could try thinking of colours - purple and white flowery ones are broccolli
              green flowery is calabrise
and other leafy ones, which arent cabbages are kale!!

              There thats much clearer now!
