Question sort of superseded by the links which I hope you find useful. I was thinking about balancing it with other materials.

Thanks for the replies with regards to composting the spent malt, I have read the threads etc, I think it will be a case of suck it and see! I have already spread some over a recently dug bed, which the local birds totally agree with!! also some has been mixed with other compostable materials in my open pallet compost area and lastly some has been put into those plastic type compost containers, fingers crossed, maybe I`ll report back as to how things are progressing.

I'd like to know how you get on. There are a couple of micro breweries near here which I could probably tap into if it's worth the trip.

marchogaeth, The spent hops are definitely worth collecting, been collecting these from the Brentwood Brewery for about 5 years now, my fellow plot holders love them, as do I, We spread then as a mulch, compost them, dig them straight into the beds to allow the bugs to do their bit, I prefer to mix them with other compostable materials, and allow a year for the elements to break it all down into wonderful compost. Now as for the spent malt, one will have to wait to see how things progress, a few of us here In Brentwood are testing their potential, fingers crossed.
