I recently pulled up the Raab plants which I sowed from the free seed on the June issue (or was it July?) only to discover that almost all the plants had what appeared to be Club root. Does anyone else have this problem or have I developed a problem locally? Alan

Anything in the brassica family can suffer from club root. It tends to be a soil thing. If you've got it, you've got it. I think Snadger had some success with putting rhubarb leaves in the planting hole, but I think you're stuck with it really.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I find that club root is just something to live with and to try and keep it within acceptable bounds. All my brassicas I grow on into 5" pots and get a really strong plant before putting out on the lottie. That way I find the plants will still produce a good crop even if they get the club root. Don't compost any plants infected. Lime will also help the plants deal with clubroot and many fellow lottie growers dust the planting hole with lime when planting out.
