  • Cloche

Hello all had my first go at growing a bit of veg last year and really enjoyed it, I'm having a go at starting from seed under floresant lights and was wondering regards chillies tomatoes etc should I be aiming to get them out as soon as frosts have passed or till it's 50 degf overnight? I'm in Bristol and my last frost should be end of march, do yo think they would need any sort of protection like a cloche even if the frostshave passed? Also would the chilli plants benefit from being in a cloche throughout the season where it may be slightly warmer? Many thanks for any replies :-)

They will do better under cover in a greenhouse than outside but some varieties will thrive outside. Starting them off in a heated prop under light will do no harm.

End of march sounds way too early for bristols last frost date.....but you can check this easily online.

Good luck. It's very satisfying growing chillies......

    Loving my allotment!

I grow mine in an unheated greenhouse, but I do know that TwoSheds has grown some outside and had success. I think March is too early to be planting them out though, I don't sow mine until mid-March.

To be honest, i`m just down the road in Bridgwater and I never reckon on being safe from ground frost tillearly May,anything tender I plant before that would be under a good fleece, from early april onwards.

Thanks for the replies this is where I got the dates from First and last frost dates for towns and cities in the UK and USA
Im just a little confused as to when to put them out and if a cloche would benefit to add a little heat also regardless of frosts will it be too cold air temp to put toms chillies etc out very early April?
