  • Christmas Spuds

.. have just arrived - Charlottes (love em!) & Kestrel (not tried before).. Thought I'd support tattieman and order from his Christmas / Autum range.

I've a few questions about them:

    - With them both being second earlies is it adviseable to chit them, and in doing so perhaps beat the blight 'season' - or is that later on still?

    - I guess they'd be ready in ~13 weeks reading around - and seeing as it's 24 odd weeks until Christmas not sure if I should chit, or store?

    - I've heard some people say that early July is planting time for xmas spuds.... are they on about main crops? Happy to try some other maincrop varieties out if this is the case.

    - Do you leave the early varieties to beef up some more, harvesting after 20 odd weeks, or are they lifted after ~13 weeks and stored?

    - If I don't chit, should I remove the white shoots/chits from them? Looks like they started out as the dark purple chits, and then sprouted whities! They're only 0.5cm long.

    Thanks!
