chillis and peppers

I assume all your plants are being treated the same? Same size pots, same conditions etc. If so, then I assume your habaneros are just being temperamental. Sweet peppers I've always found difficult, but if the plants will only carry one fruit per plant then maybe they're not in big enough pots.

I have a similar puzzle: my hungarian black, cayenne and thai red chillis are going great guns but my peppers will just not set. They are lovely strong, healthy plants, lots of flowers, lots of polinators around (have to rescue hundreds of hover flies everynight from the blow-away!) but not one pepper (actually I had one but it started growing with the bottom open, strangely, so binned it). Would be interested to hear any ideas people may have

My chocolate hab has only just started setting pods. I had alot of flower drop. On another forum one of the chilliheads put it down to the hot spell. Yet my poblanos and cayenne are doing great guns.

Peppers are in 12" pots, which I reckon should be big enough. I suppose with the chilis the weather hasn't been good here recently and the habs were last to flower. Maybe they just need a bit of sunshine! Even the tomatoes have been dropping a lot of flowers the last week.

I've a chocolate hab in a 12 inch pot, about 15 inches tall now.

Its got about 15 decent sized fruit and a few new small ones

Are you making sure that it gets enough insects able to reach the flowers?

If mine look a bit lacklustre then I always pick the first pepper off, it throws lot of new flowers out if you do this.

I sometimes pick the first pepper off anyway....just to get some eaten!

My Habs have done some flower dropping too. It's maddening aint it? I've not had much luck with sweet peppers either. I'm just thankful for the two that have decided to stick around.

dont know what variety mine are, but they seem to be doing ok in 10" pots

Can anyone tell me why the branches of my chilli plants are turning black and what I can do or is this usual. Also another on another plant one of the actual chillis has a bit of black on it. Is it safe to continue growing and eating it?

Is it the actual branches or just at the junctions where it's turning black? Do you know what variety of Chilli you're growing?

All my chillies plants do this - it's not a problem - as long as your leaves are green the plant is healthy.
As gfor the actual chilli that is turning black - some varieties turn a dark brown before reaching their intended colour - if the fruit feels hard as opposed to soft then it should be okay. If it's soft it could be blossom end rot !

just got back from hols and daughter has been looking after my greenhouse,12 assorted chilli/sweet/cayenne ,all fruiting great, averaging 15-20 fruit on each plant (though not as big as they should be by now)the good early summer up here gave them a good start,even with all the recent rain the melons seem to be following suit,best so far was two heaped bucket fulls of french beans,from 12 plants,now in the freezer,i am hoping the rest goes as well,but came back to blight on the tatties,so will use them asap,after the cold,slow start we had ,i reckon we will do okay..hope the same for all of you......
