    Chillies already !

    Been a bit behind this year but managed to get my chillies in their grow-bags this weekend.
    They were in reasonably size pots but were starting to get a bit "concerned".
    As I potted one into the grow bag the plant was about 18" tall and had two chillies already one quite long and green.
    Anyone else getting early chillies ?
    I normally put 4 plants to a grow bag , what do others do ?

    I am harvesting my pimento de padron and my cayenne plants have several fruits on each plant. Some long and getting quite large but not turning red yet. My scotch bonnet, lemon and habs are not yet fruiting.

    Now planted in pots or direct in GH border.

    Loving my allotment!

      All my chilli's plants are about 2 to 3 imches high!

        I'v got flowers on my overwintered scotch bonnets and on this years' cayennes. Everything else is a little too small just now.
        All my chillies stay in pots in the greenhouse - no room for more grow bags once the toms are planted up.

          I never used to grow chillies and had tomatoes and cumbers half/half.

          Also tried butternut squash but they weren't worth the effort as I only got one or two per plant.

          Cucumbers always got that mildew white powder so now I only grow Marketmore out side, I start them in a small frame and then take the top off and let them climb a frame, still leave frame around for some wind protection.

          GH toms are mainly Alacante to provide bags of "billard balls" for the freezer, also nice in salads.

          My favorite are cherries but most of these are best outside.

          So of late I have tinkered with chillies with some success. Bell peppers don't seem to work.

            I was quite pleased with my chilli plant- it's looking healthy and about 10" high but certainly no signs of fruit. Well done

              Mine are looking lovely but nowhere near any flowers or fruit yet

                I've got them on my Hungarian Black and Nigel's Outdoors -- astonishingly early. Some others have flower buds.

                Also, my overwintered Hungarian Black is covered in flowers and chilis, and the overwintered Orange Hab has set a bunch more (it set about 10 smallish ones inside in Feb, so who knows what it's thinking.)

                  All of my chillies germinated this year and grew to about an inch then sat there for weeks at the same size. The other day they seemed to start growing again then a snail ate them all.

                  No chillies. One fat snail.
                  We're the Sweeney, son - and we haven't had any dinner.

                    Got some small flowers on my Jalapeno and small fruits on my Californian Wonder peppers, they were sown in early march.

                      Tried some Dorset Naga this year but after a particularly bad experience at work involving three drops of "ten minute burn" chilli sauce I don't know if that was a good idea.

                      Anyone tried these ?

                        Wow. When did you sow them.

                        I got padron plants that I sowed in March and just put them out in their final place only 2 weeks ago, so no flowers or anything yet.

                        Then again I wasn't expecting to see any fruit till July at least. What are you guys doing that I am not?

                          5th February. In a heated prop then on a windowsill till April. Popped them out in the blow away then and just into my new stay put this week. I will get some photos up later. Cheers

                            Mine went in early Feb in heated propagator.

                              iv got fruits and flowers on Prairie Fire and Razzamatazz ,4 plants, but they were over wintered. The Chilli's iv sown this year (back in Feb) still look very small and need to play alot of catch up :/
