Chilli problem?

    Chilli problem?

    Can anyone suggest what this might be at the base of some pepperone? They have been left neglected since planting for lack of space but thought today I would transplant them but have then seen this slime/mould at the base of there stems. Any suggestions?

    Still pot them on and see what happens?

    Look like a mould to me, and imo, your compost is far too wet.

      Nothing to loose by planting them on. I'd give them a gentle wipe with a kitchen towel, pot them into fresh compost and water as in the post above.

      See what happens.

        Its wet as I just watered them with the intention to plant on later, I always give them a good water before that, is that not right?

          my first reaction was they look like roots forming on the stems, just like you get with toms

          pot them on and plant them a bit deeper, just below the first leaves should do

            yes that is correct, I always do the same before I re-pot

                Hmm, they do look like roots forming... You also appear to have the makings of an infestation (whitefly?) which can very quickly get out of hand if not dealt with... def not good for these small plants

                    They could be roots, it's hard to see, but GT said it was slime/mould:

                      That's true - and mould/slime should def not be there. If they are that wet they might not have good roots either - chillis really hate wet feet. But no harm in potting on...

                        The more I look at the picture, the more sure I am that they are roots forming, look at how they are growing out of opposite sides of the stems, I think a mould growth would be a little more random

                        Op also mentioned they are not normally this wet, and has watered them well prior to potting on
                        hopefully they have done this already

                        they need to get on top of the insect infestation though (well spotted) the garlic/chilli spray posted elsewhere on the forum seems to work well on most things I have tried it on
