  • Chilli Plant - Is it trying to flower?

    Hello,

This is my first year growing chillies so I am still a complete newbie.

Is this plant starting to flower? Are these buds appearing?

This plant was only sown in January so surely it is way to soon for it to be attempting to flower?

      Is this a bad thing?

Surely the plant is too young to be flowering, wont this stunt the flowers growth overall and lead to poor returns?

I have this happen every year.

Several of mine are doing it now, and they are only 5 inches tall.

        I pull them off.

My theory being that the plant will then focus on producing stems/branches....

Lovely healthy looking plants by the way

As it's young and early in the year I would remove them to encourage it into a sizeable plant doing this it would put it's energy into producing more growth when summer/warmer weather comes you will get a lot more fruit

Just my opinion loads of videos on YouTube on this

Phew, Cheers guys, I thought I had done something seriously wrong then.

So is it just a case of popping of the little ball buds, or do I cut off the entire flower stem?

It is just this one plant doing this. It is a monster, about 3 times the size of any others I have, even thought they were all sowed at the same time

don't leave a bit of useless stem, because it's likely to rot or catch some fungal disease (eg. botrytis).

Cut it off cleanly where it joins the stem
