Is it too late to sow celeriac?

Well it's been so cold I don't think it will make much difference. They'll soon catch up. I have transplanted mine into 3 inch pots waiting to go out on a day with no rain...whenever that will be! -
Don't quote me but I was looking to grow celeriac earlier in the year then saw it had an approximately 5 month growing period to harvest and thought bugger that. That would now put you into October but hell, you could always pull them as a smaller specimen if the weather starts killing them off.Comment

I find it germinates pretty quickly but I tend to do that inside in the utility room but with no extra heat. Last year they were all outside by now but at the moment they're still really teeny and hardly ready to pot on so am not confident of a crop.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

I think its a bit late FF. I started mine on the 26th March (2nd attempt - buggar to germinate!!) and they are about 3" tall and sitting happily in my greenhouse.Comment

Had a quick look at Unwins and plants are £5.95 for 18 (I think, not concentrating very well, got the dentist soon). That's about 33p each isn't it? Mmm, might try seed anyway.Granny on the Game in SheffieldComment

I bought some celery seedlings yesterday too [forgot them in the great big list of stuff..], well worht avoiding the hassle of pricking out baby stuff...they're about 6 inches high and have been planted out already, so if you can get celeriac, get it

Celeriac is frost hardy anyway so they'll sit over winter , I tucked a bit of straw round mine . They still didn't get much begger than tennis ball tho' .........maybe this yearS*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

Poop and water - lots of both. Incidentally I planted mine later last year than previous years and kept them in a warm greenhouse. They got bigger in a quicker timeframe. Will do same again this year.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

I potted mine on today, but they are growing really slowly. I had them in the window of the spare (unheated) bedroom. Maybe I need to move them somewhere a bit warmer!Comment
