  • Celeriac Flowering

Some of my celeriac is flowering. Is that a bad sign indicating no further growth of root will take place? I've let my leftover leeks from last year grow on up as I want them to flower (and add height to my mixed plot) but I am not sure about the celeriac.

Littlemouse, have you been watering them?

They need water to develop a good root and it's been very, very dry

Mine flowered too....I feel cheated as I've nurtured those little plants since January and now looks like I've lost the lot - all because, I'm assuming, that I didn't water them enough. Tricky little things, I'll persist next year though and make an effort to water every other day minimum rather than a drench once a week! My parsnip seedlings all died off too so my roots patch is going to look rather bare this winter!

It has been an atypical year so far. Late frosts followed by drought. Poor little perishers are just setting seed before Nature finishes them off.

i've grown celeriac in those polystyrene boxes you get from fish shops - i hardly put any drainage holes in them and i'm finding that the celeriac seems to be flourishing as it's getting all the water it needs...hopefully anyway!
