Protect them now and keep your fingers crossed, I reckon.
When the larvae have hatched and get munching, you get some colour change in the foliage, but you don't often see that until they are a bit older. The flies are certainly around at this time of year, so don't delay any longer. There will be more generations to come this year, so you're best off doing something even if you're lucky this time.
You can put a barrier around them - a two-foot high mesh or fleece "fence" - or cover them completely. |
