Can pea seedlings be transplanted?

    Can pea seedlings be transplanted?

    Or are they one of those plants that don't like to be moved?

    I sowed some Dwarf Peas, in a large container, in June. A few haven't come up, so I was wondering if I could move a few so that they are more evenly spaced out?

    Pea variety is 'Hurst Green Shaft', they were seeds from ones that I grew from bought plants last year and they produced lots and lots of very tasty peas

      I'd say not. (apologies for disagreeing TS) Root disturbance knocks them right back.....I always sow them thickly anyway. chuck the whole pot in and make sure they have room to grow on the support.

        I bought some pea plants from garden centre this year, i usually sow in situ. They grew wonderfully.

          As seedlings or small plants they can be transplanted but if they have been growing in their final pot for 6 weeks or so I'd agree that you will break some roots and set them back.

          Why not sow some more seed in the gaps ?

            Thankyou for all your replies They were sown less than 6 weeks ago so I guess it will be ok to move a few. I had thought of sowing a few more but wasn't sure if this would give them enough time to mature, flower and set seed before the bad weather comes in. i'll go pop a few more in now

              You can transplant pretty much anything so long as you are careful but it's often easier to just fill in the gaps with a load more seeds. I wouldn't throw them away though, that would be quite wasteful!

              Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                I transplanted my pea's np.

                I found after the first few sow's i always seemed to loose a few to mice or rot.. at least thats what i expect got them.

                Now i just sow a seed tray full and plant them out when they are about 3" tall and i've not lost any since.
