I sowed too many mangetout (variety is Oregan - or maybe Orange - something or other) in late June/early July. Could i put some in hanging baskets, or will they only grow if they've got something to cling onto in order to grow upwards?

You can certainly grow mangetout in hanging basket. I grew them in hanging basket before, you dont need to tie it to anything. You need to feed them regularly and yield will not be as high as planted in ground. Oregon is not very tall should be ok. -
I grew dwarf ones in a hanging basket a few years ago. Worked well but not a brilliant crop as there was only room for a few plants.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

I grow Oregon Sugar Pod and it gets to a good 4 ft in height. You won't manage many in a hanging basket I wouldn't have thought.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
