  • Can I plant Silverskins out now..?

    Hi

I have been growing silverskin onions for pickling!, they look ready to go out, after being germinated in the house, and brought on in my blowaway..

I have never grown these before, and i am wondering will they be fine to plant into their final place in the garden this week?

also any other advice on growing and harvesting these would be greatly appreciated!

It's too cold & wet outside for me, let alone my onions. They'll be going out at the end of the month I reckon

I start off pickling and salad onions under glass in 3 or 4 inch pots. A sprinkle of seed in each pot and then plant out the entire clump once they get to a decent size and when the weather is suitable. You can just stick the clumps in anywhere and don't have to be paranoid about having nice straight rows.

We seem to be having a problem with the allium miner fly here so unless they're fleeced it's not recommended for them to be planted out before May.....
