  • Can I leave these in pots?

    Hi all

I'm very much a beginner at all this, but I decided to grow some spring onions and lettuce (salad bowl) in containers on my wall and they are both doing fine. I'm a bit worried that I grew too many seeds in them though. Should I just leave them or prick them out into something bigger? I originally wanted to just have them in these containers so I could just pick them as I went along as it were.

Also, I grew some courgettes, originally inside but now in my £15 mini-greenhouse thing. They have all gotten a bit leggy though and have flopped over. Should I scrap them and start again or re-pot them or something do you think?

    Kind regards

Are you watering the courgettes enough? Also I'm no expert in this as I'm a complete noob but how about attaching the courgette stems to a support to keep them straight?

someone who knows better will be along soon, but the lettuce and spring onions both look really healthy, so you could just start picking and eating the thinnings now, leading to more space.

The Courgettes do look a little leggy - my pumpkins were like that - I repotted mine into a thin deep pot so that the stem was pretty much buried up to the first set of leaves.

Regarding the courgettes, I would just repot them and plant them deeper in to the pot. That is what I did with mine and they are doing well now

Yep, I agree with Glut. Start thinning the lettuces and eat the thinnings. You appear to have a tremendous amount there!!
You could also replant the thinnings into another container or area of the garden and they will be fine.
You say they are Salad Bowl. I don't know if they are the same as my Salad Bowl but they are a cut and come again lettuce ie they do not heart up like say a Little Gem. Mine are red and green ones.
As for the spring onions, well they do take a very long time to mature into anything like you would buy in the shops, so again, thin them and eat them, leaves and all. Or transplant into the garden or another container. Sanjo

Plant some of the thinnings of lettuce into other containers to grow into bigger lettuce. Also as grapes have said start thinning and eating the them. Pot on courgettes and try to give a bit more light, you could try putting them a little deeper in their new pot but it isn't something I would do as there is a tendancy to cause the stem to rot. The spring onions look fine but once again you could pot on the little groups, which you seem to have, into bigger pots. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
