  • Can cucumbers see?

I planted 5 cucumber plants in pots, all from seedling and all pots the same size.

I kept one plant in the house on a window sill and the other 4 on the top shelf of my small mobile greenhouse.

I cant belive the difference in size. The one in the house has 5-6 big leaves and has shot up to about 4 ft already whilst the other 4 all have 5 leaves but havent grown much at all. At first I thought the success of plant number 1 was because it was left in the house but the other plants are healthy enough just small.

Is this because the cucumber can use some sort of wierd plant detection thing and see how much space it has to grow and adapts to its area accordingly. or have i got a triffid on my hands.

You could ask, has the one in the house gone leggy because its "looking" for more light

I wouldnt say it has tbh, it has a thick stem and can hold itself up without the use of supports if it needs to

Then maybe your mega- cue has had plenty of light and warmth, whilst the Outside ones have not had so much. I dunno, sorry!!

          Np's veggie,

I'm new to this capper so i'll have to see whats gonna happen. i've moved it into the greenhouse now because quite frankly it was getting to big to be inside, plus i thought i heard it moving around the house when we're all in bed.

I imagine, just like most living organisms, a cucumber plant will do what it has to do in order to survive. Maybe you're seeing the difference in survival instincts!

Or maybe it's just warmer indoors.

Thats exactly what i thought but the ones in the GH have about the same amount of leaves, so that says to me they are getting the same heat give or take or they would be way behind in the growing process if u know what i mean.
