A small courgette plant I have has snapped below its first two leaves - I stuck the broken end in the soil and it seems ok after a few hours. Can this re-root?

When i snapped the top of my cucumber last year I popped it in water and it didn't take it long to root.Location....East Midlands. -

this happend to a small melon plant I have in the same place, i just "earthed up" around the broken part, its growing ok and is now getting its first true leaves
