Bunyards Exhibition - are these OK or more leggy than Angelina?

    Bunyards Exhibition - are these OK or more leggy than Angelina?

    Hello All,

    I had planted some Bunyards exhibition in seed trays as last years broad beans when they were planted in the ground some pesky varmint moved or ate them ...(they werent bunyards)...

    So this year I started them indoors in seed trays - however they have germinated and shot up - however I am concerned that they are leggy...

    Not having grown Bunyards before, are they climbers (yes, I could read the packet, but I threw it away ) are they meant to look like this???...or should I compost this bunch and re-plant???

    They are leggy and far too close together. I sowed mine individually in toilet roll inners. Also, they don't need to be indoors. Mine are outside on the bench till I can get them to the allotment.

      Aha!...I was hoping to germinate them and then just get them outside - but I didnt get to the allotment in time and kaboom - here we are at leggy beans...

      Should I start again do you think???

        Broad beans don't climb (with tendrils) but some are taller than others and they need support.
        I sowed mine in modules in the greenhouse and the some darling little critturs dug them out and ate them. Nowhere is safe!!

          I think you'd be better starting again to be honest. The roots in that tray will be a solid mass.

            They don't even look like broadies, tbh (sorry). Ding them, start again. One bean per loo roll or 2" module, then plant out 6"-9" apart from each other in a double row (2 rows parallel).

            Put a cane at each corner of your bean encampment, and wind string around the canes, trapping the beans inside the structure. This will help stop them falling over under their own weight

              Deffinately start again.Sow in individual pots, I use paper pot I make, and I leave them in an unheated greenhouse until they are about four inches high and bushy. Harden off and plant out.
