  • Broccoli not just bolting-- doing a Usain...

    Hi all,
Has any one else had trouble with calabrese/broccoli bolting this year? Have dug all of mine up as every single plant bolted. Any flourets that I did manage to pick were very small and hardly worth cooking...
What would have caused this to happen?

Mine went to seed weeks ago and yes, it's the weather that's been the problem. Putting some more in next month if the snugs don't wreak their havoc on the little plants I am trying to grow stronger.

I think I've been really lucky so far - not a single bolting broccoli or calabrese either at home or on the allotment. My radishes are another story, more bolting in that bed than in a herd of spooked horses!

Calabrese and cauliflowers have all been bonsai-sized this year. had several calabrese that sent up tiny heads when the pants were six inches high with about 4 true leaves. Assume it was the weather but don't know why. Would have thought the moisture would make growth more leafy and slow the bolting. Cabbages have been fab. Still, always more to learn.

Mine have done the same and they're really tall too. I've also seen (and had one of my own) a few flowering carrots, and if I'm not mistaken, carrots are not supposed to flower until their second year.

Is it not too late to be sowing broccoli FF ? Or can you sow at any time ?
