  • Broad Beans??

Hiya - I put out my broad bean seeds about 2-3 weeks ago now. I went to the allotment today and no sign of them coming up!

How long should it take at this time of year before they sprout?

I would give them another week to ten days, and if no show, root about and see if you can find anything. For winter sowings, I personally use thiram coated seed as this prevents rotting in the colder wet ground, and I always achieve Excellent germination- I Know not everyone will aprove, but it does it for me!

Mine took a while to come up.. checking the modules the roots were there, but the top growth followed late afterwards (presumably, due to the cooler weather, you want to get your foundations right before building up your house ).

Mine I have been in a couple of weeks too and there's no sign of them yet - or the peas. The greenhouse peas are through though.

I planted November last year, and they hadn't come up by the time the snows came. I thought that was their lot, but no, up they popped come February time.

          Hardy little things, seeds...

Mine are 3" tall, sown early November. As the days shorten & cool, germination takes longer.

I've never had any rot in the ground

I've had them rot before and they've also been scranned by the meeces!

Mine are 9 inches tall but seem to be thriving outdoors for the time being!
