  • Broad Beans and Peas in Blowaway

I want to get some more seeds started while I am getting my allotment ready for sowing.

My windowsills are full and I have run out of propagator space.

Would it be OK to sow some Broad Beans and Peas in modules in MPC and then just leave them in the blowaway greenhouse I have outside to germinate.

Flipping work keeps getting in the way and I am hoping that the 4 day Easter Break means that I can build my new Polycarb Greenhouse.

Also any other veg that I could sow in a unheated blowaway I was thinking maybe Kale or Swiss Chard

I think it should be fine, as long as mice don't find them! My peas are now outside and 2 inches high. Brassicas, leeks and onions should be fine out there in modules till you can plant them out, likewise beetroot.

Need to be careful that the blowaway doesn't get left zipped-up and turn into an oven! on a sunny day. other than that should be fine, too much rain might rot the seed, but that won't be a problem with them under cover.

Peg your blow away down. I have mine pegged with bags of compost and heavy pots. Also make sure that your shelves fit properly one of mine doesn't and last year it fell off and took the layer of seedlings with it.
Like Kristen says be careful about the temperature doesn't get to hot. Mine was like a sauna at one point last year.

I found that even a small wind can get the sides of the cover flapping with enough energy to launch a seed tray. I've pushed canes down between the cover and the mid section horizontal support to counter this. I also pop some short lengths of cane through the mesh shelving at the front to stop the trays.
