  • Broad beans and onions

    Hi all, just want your opinions with regards to broad beans and onions,
    i have some onion sets and was wondering if they would be ok to plant out now?, and i have also got some broad beans that have been hardening off in the cold frame can i plant these out now? i'm in the manchester area if thats any help thanks in advance

    Yes they should both be ok now. As long as the broad beans are well hardened off I can't see a problem You can sow them in situ now too.

      Thanks for getting back to me, i'll go and put them into tomorrow , i have had some plastic cloches covering the soil over the week to dry it out and warm it a bit, should i use them to protect the beans, onions? also is it right that broad beans dont like being planted with onions?

        I have two different companion sheets on the go. Neither specifies Broad beans, just bush or pole BUT both say avoid planting with onions. Hope that helps
