  • Brassica getting very leggy

    Hi everyone.
I have about 200 different of plant no the go but I can't get the brassica right. Is a south facing windowsill and get plenty sunshine and the brassica get so leggy like if there is no enough light. Some romanesco start to germinate yesterday morning and this morning look like watercress. What could be the problem? Is it too hot for them to germinate inside the house? Should I start a new batch in the greenhouse? I had same problem few weeks ago with broad bean but start new batch last week in greenhouse and they coming up nice and short as they should.
    Thanks a lot

The greenhouse would probably be better - more all round light and cooler. Brassicas don't care for being too warm.

The brassicas I have already started have germinated, and are growing on quite happily in an unheated greenhouse. As said previously cooler is better.

Prick them out, transplant them deep & put them in a cooler spot.

It's your shout Sarico but I personally would plant them deep.

Brassicas will usually come good after a leggy start.

Maybe sow some more but just give the existing ones basic care and see what happens. You can never have too many brassicas.

If you want to start again you could always eat the seedlings as microgreens rather than throwing them away.

I have learnt this year you can 100% have too many brassicas! remember for next year 120 broccoli is far too much no matter how much you eat and it does not matter if you successionally sow them!!
Space is a big problem for brassicas as well, my romanescos grew a meter square.

Start again most packets come with 100īs of seeds. Eat your leggy ones as micros
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

As Mallly says, I wouldn't give up on the leggy ones, just transplant really deeply and firmly and you'll be amazed Sarico. Best bit of advice I was given on here when I first joined. If it wasn't for the slugs, I'd be knee deep in bras
