What on earth is the point of calling a Beetroot bolthardy if it even bolts in long periods of cool weather for the time of year ? I just can't get them to grow without bolting.

Did you use seeds or plug plants? I realised a few years ago that if I took the lazy way out and used ready grown plants they bolted all over the place - probably because the roots were disturbed too much while I was planting them in.
Too much watering can also have the bolt effect as can too much fertilizer.

Too much of anything can cause bolting as it confuses the plant. They like steady and consistent conditions which can be very difficult to provide.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

A bolting plant is one which is stressed and is trying to reproduce before it dies. Bolt hardy can cope with more stress than some types but as you have discovered can still bolt (it's happened to me too in past years). In order for yours to bolt it must have been subject to either temperature, water or nutrition fluctuations or possibly a combination of the above. There is little you can do about the temperature but you can always do better with the others (I try every yearOriginally posted by Marb67 View Post
) so if you always fail at something, think back and reanalyse your approach, maybe preparing the ground differently, doing more or less of something or doing it more or less often but better and you'll get there but if it's bolting something is definitely out of balance.
