Default Blight in Woking.

Boohoo.

I've just found one of my plants with a blighty stem. Quick as a flash i've despatched the plant into the bin and left the fruit to ripen. I hope i'm quick enough otherwise they'll be 20 more plants on the way to land fill.

I really must buy something to burn things in........

I've borrowed a bin ( granddaughter calls it a brassiere ) but nothing's dry enough to burn!!! Might just have to resort to a flamethrower (joke!)

blight has been around in Woking for about 4 weeks now so you are lucky to only have just got it. lost all my outdoor toms to it a couple of weeks ago.

Agh blighty blighty blight

I've just binned another 5 plants lost 40/60 fruits too. Oh this is all very depressing. Still thr ferline variety (in a huge pot) has held up well against the cursed disease so far. If only the blight could be made to vanish.

Managed to save enough sound green tomatoes off my blighty plants to make loads of green tomato chutney. No nice ripe ones to eat fresh from outside this year, although the greenhouse ones were OK.

I'm in Berkshire and I think it's got some of my plants too :-(

Luckily they're in two different areas and the other lot seem ok so far (touch wood!)

I've had tonnes of toms this year (all outside). About half ripened outside the rest were brought inside to ripen on windowsill. Grab em now and ripen them indoors away from the blight!

yep it is definatly round guildford, I have lost all my outdoor toms to blight in the last two weeks, the ones in my greenhouse seem to be holding out though. I tried some Legend blight resistant tomatoes from T&M this year they are outside and still going strong, I think they are similar to the Ferline variety that Duronal grew but the Legend ones are a bush type. I might cut my losses and just grow the blight resistant ones next year.

For those looking for a green tomato chutney recipe, have a look in the Season To Taste section, there's a couple of good recipes there. Also, green tomato jam is a lot nicer than it sounds, why not give that a whirl? Val’s Recipe for Green Tomato Jam | Allotment Growing Recipes

I'll consider myself lucky then, or inexperienced at the very least, i am right next door to you, and due to the fact i am impatient and have never grown toms before I took mine all off green and ripened indoors.

i feel for you over the cabbage whites, my mum is in lancing too, and keeps chooks so we planted off at least 50 cabbages for them, they came up well, but once the catties got them they looked like lace, still the chooks liked the catties almost as much as the cabbages so not a total loss.

I shall count myself lucky then. I'm just along the coast from BrideXIII & Grovsey and i haven't got any blight yet "touch wood". I only have three moneymaker plants in the back garden and they are all fine, although a bit bland due to not enough sun this year.
