  • Black Opal Tomato advice

    Hi,

I recently purchased some Black Opal plug plants and since potting them on they've grown really well.

They are currently growing on a sunny windowsill at my mums house (I'm dogsitting) her house is always kept pretty warm.

I noticed this morning that they are starting to get little flowers. I'm a little bit worried that its too soon and the plants are too small for this. Do they need moving somewhere a bit cooler or is this normal.

I've never grown this variety before so I'm not sure what to think.

    Any advice would be great.

    I've hopefully attached some photos!

    Thanks
    Gayle

Definitely too soon for them to go outside unless you have a well heated greenhouse. They look about the right size for flowering though. If there are roots poking through the holes in the bottom of the pot you might want to pot them on to a slightly bigger pot. Cooler conditions wouldn't be a bad idea as this would slow their growth but needs to be as sunny as possible. You could always pick off the flowers. They will produce more later. Where are they going to be growing in the end?

I don't have a greenhouse so I definitely wont be putting them outside any time soon but I probably will move them to my house where they can be in a sunny area but in a house that's not so warm.

I've just potted them up yesterday as the roots had reached the bottom of the pot.

I'm not entirely sure if they will be going inside or outside in the end, my plans tend to be pretty flexible!

      Thanks for the advice.

I'm not sure you will be very successful in growing them in the house completely. They will need to be outside or greenhouse eventually.

They probably will get moved outside at some point after being hardened off I just don't have a clear plan yet. I'm not the most organised gardener :S
